BGF Industries has enjoyed over 25 years of explosive growth:
- 1956 Burlington Industries / Hess Goldsmith began weaving fiber glass fabrics in Altavista, VA.
- 1961 Establishment of the world's first giant mill designed expressly for weaving glass fabrics in Cheraw, South Carolina.
- 1961 Patent awarded on the innovative 210 Heat Cleaning process.
- 1969 Hess Goldsmith renamed Burlington Glass Fabrics Company.
- 1976 Burlington Glass Fabrics introduced air jet shuttleless weaving and expanded its line beyond glass fabrics with the weaving of Kevlar® fabric.
- 1980 Manufacturing operations expanded with the opening of a plant in South Hill, Virginia.
- 1981 Carbon Weaving plant opened in Cheraw, SC.
- 1983 Quality Signals Program introduced, giving employees responsibility for evaluating the quality of management and manufacturing operations.
- 1983 Second generation air jet shuttleless weaving added to production lines.
- 1986 Company headquarters relocation from New York City to Greensboro, North Carolina.
- 1987 Burlington Glass Fabrics Company purchased by Burlington Holdings, Inc., with Morgan Stanley, Inc., as the major shareholder.
- 1988 Burlington Glass Fabrics was purchased by Porcher Industries of Badinieres, France. In recognition of the global capabilities of the merged companies, the former Burlington division became BGF Industries, Inc.
- 1992 ISO 9002 certification achieved.
- 1994 New product capabilities expanded with the opening of the Industrial Nonwovens Division.
- 1994 Techmat® - A needled or thermal bonded mat product consisting of one or more combinations of high performance fibers was introduced.
- 1995 Corporate headquarters relocated within Greensboro, North Carolina into facilities including state-of-the-art research and development laboratories.
- 1996 New plant dedicated to the manufacture of lightweight fabrics for the electronics industry opened in South Hill, Virginia. Equipment housed in clean room environment incorporating all new material handling techniques. Production equipment in this facility is of proprietary technology.
- 1998 BGF was the first in the technical textiles industry to have an
internet presence on the world wide web @ www.bgf.com
- 1999 Industrial Nonwoven Facility in Altavista Va, is expanded with 21,000 sq. ft. addition. The modernization includes all new state of the art manufacturing equipment.
- 2001 BGF introduces B2BGF (see
press release)
- 2003 BGF successfully upgraded its ISO-Registration to 9001:2000 (see press release)
- 2004 The Industrial Nonwovens Division expands an additional 60,000 ft. with the opening of its new Parts Assembly Plant in Altavista, Va.
