 BGF manufactures nonwoven blankets for exhaust insulation systems. Two products are utilized
for automotive exhaust insulation: Techmat® and SilcoSoft® mat.
Techmat is a mechanically bonded glass fiber insulation blanket of uniform density with
excellent thermal and acoustical properties. Techmat's superior thermal properties make
it the ideal product for exhaust insulation in mufflers where temperatures can reach 1000-1200ºF.
Techmat's superior acoustical properties provide an added benefit as a sound absorber making
it the preferred material for automotive exhaust insulation to achieve a “quiet ride”
SilcoSoft Mat is a nonwoven insulation blanket providing a higher level of thermal performance
when used as exhaust insulation. SilcoSoft is a soft,  cotton-like
blanket made from a remarkable new fiber by belChem Fiber Materials in Germany. SilcoSoft's
non-dusting, non-irritating, non-respirable (9 micron) fleecy soft fiber provides safe
and easy handling when working with exhaust insulation materials. SilcoSoft can withstand
temperatures up to 2000ºF
and provides excellent sound insulation making it the ideal product for high performance
exhaust insulation applications such as race car exhaust systems, catalytic converters,
and motorcycle mufflers.
